CHALLENGE #3 – DANISH INDUSTRY

Klimakoret

verdensmaal-streg

Problem

Human activity has in the past 120-140 years increased the Earth’s average surface temperature by 1°C. If we don’t intervene, the temperature is predicted to further increase by 2-4°C. The rise in temperature is mainly caused by the increased carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

To counteract these predictions, first the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015 by 196 countries and in 2019 the Danish Government and supporting parties set a goal of reducing the CO2-emissions by 70% in 2030.

The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) were the first to undertake a a complete analysis and financed plan for how Denmark can reach these ambitious goals, resulting in DI’s 2030 Plan. DI have asked us to come up with solution on how to not only create awareness about the Mission 70% but also on innovative ways to engage the public in a discussion about the future of climate initiatives.

Solution

Klimakoret aims to spontaneously engage people passing by through an augmented reality screen. In our example below it is situated in the Metro passageway at Kongens Nytorv and tries to convert the COVID-19 public restrictions to a fun advantage.

On the one side of the screen, pedestrians who pass by, will be surprised to see a speech bubble appearing. The speech bubble follows the person and seems to indicate that the statement written in the bubble is one that the person has said, which could lead to a lot of confusion.

The statements in the speech bubble can either be an initiative from DI’s 2030 plan or be a statement written in by another participant who wants to add something to the discussion.

On the other side of the wall/screen the initiative is presented for passersby who will be able to make their opinion on the matter heard, through a voting system where you vote for or against the initiative or statement by moving to either side of the screen.

Value propositions

As previously mentioned, the solution invites people to share their own initiatives. This would be done through a custom Instagram Geofilter, in which people can write their own thoughts. Over time some of these initiatives will show up on the screen as well and will let the people pitch their own ideas and perspectives. This will result in valuable data for DI, as they will have data on the publics opinion on their initiatives and get ideas that maybe could be implemented so that they could reach the last 5 % of their plan which as of now is allocated future initiatives and innovations. Lastly the communication of initiatives from DI’s 2030 plan is done in a different and fun way, which should make it easy for the participants to reflect upon an otherwise complex plan.
